Revamped Website

Redesigned a few things on my website and made some updates. Check it out. Thanks to Sam for figuring out why IE was being stupid and making my pages display funky. Thanks to Reed for "branding" my pictures in the top banner. Wooo!

Microsoft Tag

Microsoft Tag
Originally uploaded by kharms5253

This is the tag I made on Microsoft's website. The idea is that you can make a custom bar code and put it on a product or business card. The bar code is unique in that it can take a person to a website that has additional information about the product.

So...you install the application on your phone. When you see something with the tag, you use the application to snap a picture of the bar code. The application will then decode the image and direct you to a website. In this case, the the bar code I posted will take you to my blog...which is what you're reading now.

It's an interesting idea...it'll be interesting to see if this will take off. People can make fun designs, not just triangles when it comes to these bar codes.

Go to the Microsoft website to learn more and download the application: http://www.microsoft.com/tag/.

Coding

I wish I was better at it. I'm not bad, but there's just so much to learn. Right now I'm still piecing things together...little by little. Reminds me I need to fix some JS errors on a website I maintain.

I want to change my blog template colors, but I'm not exactly the best at picking colors that go together. This is why most of the art I have is black & white or overall, tends to have just one shade of a particular color. I'm not good with the mixing.

HTML colors are hex characters...so...everything looks like: #fff or #f6f6f6 or something. Now if only I could figure out how to put some together in an aesthetically pleasing way... :-\ This is nothing like choosing pillows for a couch. Or maybe it is...but I'll never have a website that's gold with crimson accents. :-P

Website Updates

I'm not a huge fan of doing website updates. For one, I'm not a coder. Secondly, it's tedious work and takes a long time. Third, creating a website in 'design' view doesn't count. The reason I say this is because everytime I edit a site in design view or someone else in my department, we have to sift through a pretty large amount of 'crap' code to figure out what's going on and what's supposed to happen with the code.

Kudos to you who are coders and know what on earth is going on. I wish I were one of you...because then I wouldn't F-up so many web pages time after time.

If you're interested in seeing what I'm referring to, go here: http://www.spu.edu/orgs/staff-council and you'll witness my awesome and incredibly great work. :-P

Oh yeah...I have my own site as well. It's just that I used iLife to make it. I didn't even bother with the code.

Sick

Blah...I'm getting sick and it's thanks to a student that I went home sick.  I started getting a runny nose...so since going home at 1:00 p.m. I've done laundry...slept and watched some TV Episodes of Mythbusters.  I'm now onto moving my website and re-designing it for my new domain.

I don't have to care so much anymore because it won't be hosted on SPU's FTP server.  Plus I'll have more space.  Not that I would ever post things that are inappropriate, it's just I have to be extra careful with what I say because of the site's association with SPU.
